Other commitments include China-funded training programs from 2008 for persons engaged in women's literacy in the Asia-Pacific region, donation to the UNESCO initiation of community-based learning in the Asia-Pacific region and inclusion of the support of literacy into its bilateral aid plans.

Before the opening ceremony, Chen Zhili held meetings with Indonesian First Lady Ani Bambang Yudhoyono, Mrs. Onon Enkhbayar Tsolmon who is wife of Mongolian president, and Mr Koihiro Matsuura, Director-General of UNESCO.

Mrs. Ani Bambang Yudhoyono and Mrs. Onon Tsolmon shared the experience of their countries on literacy.

Mr Koihiro Matsuura praised China for its tremendous progress?on promoting literacy, saying China was the example to be followed?
