Senegal and China have concluded three cooperation agreements on Chinese assistance in the construction of rural schools, provision of preferential loans for the supply of electricity to Dakar's outer districts and construction of a national theater in the Senegalese capital.
"Our cooperation with China has experienced tremendous growth such that we hope that in a few years it will become a model of cooperation," Senegalese foreign minister Cheikh Tidiane Gadio said Thursday at the end of signing ceremony.
The minister called on "China to open up its arms widely for Senegalese entrepreneurs," while underlining the necessity for the two countries to protect their interests at the same time.
"While waiting for the day that Africa will unite its efforts and speak with one voice, Senegal is ready to become a model of cooperation with China," the minister said.
On his part, the Chinese vice commerce minister Wei Jianguo, who is in Senegal on a two-day official visit, expressed his joy to be leading a high-level delegation comprising influential Chinese entrepreneurs in Dakar at the pleasure of the Chinese President Hu Jintao, a mission that is seen as part of implementing the measures that were announced during the China- Africa summit, which was held in Beijing in November 2006.
Wei also expressed the satisfaction of the Chinese government with regard to developments in relations with Senegal in various fields since diplomatic relations were re-established between the two countries in September 25, 2005.
