New area links two ancient capitals of China

Shaanxi province will develop a new area between Xi'an and Xianyang, which are renowned because both have histories spanning centuries and both were China's capital city during ancient dynasties.

The area will link the two cities, which are only 25 kilometers away from one another. The establishment of the Xi'an-Xianyang new area will accelerate the integration of Xi'an and Xianyang, said Zhao Zhengyong, the provincial governor of Shaanxi province, on June 13.

According to Zhao's statement at the news conference held by the News Office of State Council, Xi'an-Xianyang new area covers 882 square kilometers, of which 272 square kilometers is construction area, with a population of 900,000.

The new area will encompass five sub-towns, which are Konggang, Fengdong, Qinhan, Fengxi and Jinghe.
