The first investment forum organized by Taiwan enterprises since the opening up across the Taiwan Strait in 1987, to attract mainland businesses, was held recently in Beijing.

On April 12, Hu Jintao, general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, met with Vincent Siew, in Boao, in southern China's Hainan Province. The news immediately evoked strong reactions within the island's business sector. Consequently, the island's leading business enterprises - the Taiwan Core Pacific Group - held the first investment conference attracting mainland business in Beijing. It is also the first Taiwan enterprises to have come to the Chinese mainland order to attract investment since the cross-strait opening.

At the meeting, Professor Lang Xianping, renowned Taiwan economist; Dr. Darby Liu, CEO of Core Pacific-Yamaichi Securities; Yan Bingli, Taiwan-renowned real estate expertand and general manager of DTZ's Taiwan branch; Jessica Hsieh, Agora Garden Taipei Hotel general manager; and the Executive Director of Core Pacific Group, among others, gave detailed introductions to hot topics such as current cross-strait macroeconomics, financial securities, Taiwan real estate's status quo and the tourism industry to the audience.
