Recently, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) signed a memorandum of understanding with Ericsson at the UN's Beijing office. The two sides agreed to co-develop rural financial services, mainly micro-credit business, to promote development in China's rural areas.
It is expensive and difficult for Chinese people living in remote rural areas to receive credit, send remittances, or make deposits; but mobile phone financial services can give farmers access to these and any financial services right away.
