The Bureau of Shanghai World Expo Coordination and the Shanghai Urban Planning Administration Bureau announced a worldwide search for teams to locate and organize sculptures for the World Expo site.
According to the briefing, the teams will first be selected; and then they will organize a collection of specific works - not directly chosen by the organizers. The planning teams are required to locate sculptures that fully incorporate the theme of the Shanghai World Expo- Better City, Better Life- and propose an innovative and imaginative plan. They will also be responsible for organizing artists to make the creation.
Organizers have planned to set up 200 sculptures in four areas of the 5.28-square-kilometer site. According to the planned content and area, there five major sculpture projects: symbolic sculptures, main exit and entrance sculptures, sculpture art gallery, sculpture plaza and sculptures at riverside landscaping belt. This activity will collect plans for only four main projects (excluding the symbolic sculptures).
Proposals were accepted as of March 31, and the deadline for submission is May 31, 2008.
