In 2007, the number of international students in China grew rapidly, and the number of overseas students studying in China exceeded 190,000 person/times. They were distributed over China's 31 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities (excluding Taiwan Province, Hong Kong and Macao Special Administrative Region); and enrolled in 544 universities and colleges, scientific research institutes and other teaching institutions. The Chinese government awarded scholarships to 10,151 students.
