The Tibetan Culture Treasure Exhibition serves as a window through which those caring about Tibet and Tibetan culture will be able to understand the region, according to a local official.

Zhu Deyan, chairman of the Shanghai Bangde Art Gallery, said that the profound Tibetan culture is a time-honored treasure. He is in charge of China's first art gallery managed by a non-State-run college.

However, Tibet culture has remained mysterious to many people because of the region's remoteness, he said, adding: "We hope to enable visitor to know Tibetan folklores and cultural relics through various kinds of historic materials."

On display are 700 objects from the Beijing Tibetan Medicine Hospital, the only national ethnic hospital in China, and famous Chinese antique collector Ye Xingsheng.

Zhu also indicated that his college plans to finance 30 poor Tibetan students annually by helping them become professionals in the sectors such as tourism, maintenance, and catering industries.
