Tornado kills 14 in Jiangsu and Anhui of south China

By 2:00 pm on July 4th, a tornado had swept through parts of Jiangsu and Anhui provinces in southern China. It left 14 people dead and 147 injured; and caused l2,931 houses to collapse and left 3,180 damaged; according to the disaster relief department of the Ministry of Civil Affairs.

From 2:50 pm to around 6:00 pm on July 3rd, a strong tornado successively hit Gayou in Yangzhou, Qingpu district of Huaian, Yandu district of Yancheng and Xinghua in Taizhou- all belonging to Jiangsu province- as well as Tianchang in Chuzhou, Anhui Province.

About 29,900 people within Jiangsu were affected by this disaster. Seven people were killed, 49 injured and 5,180 evacuated; 2,338 houses collapsed and 2,642 were damaged. The total economic loss amounted to 12.5 million Yuan. In Anhui Province, 7 were killed, 98 injured and 3,318 evacuated; 593 houses collapsed and 538 were damaged. The total economic loss reached 28.99 million Yuan.
