Beijing, June 5 (People's Daily Online) Workshop on Pedagogies to Teach and Learn was held at Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU) from June 2 to June 4. It aimed to introduce the teaching ideas and operations of American higher education and help teachers enrich their teaching methods and techniques.

The workshop mainly focuses on three topics: Intercultural Competence, Critical & Creative Thinking and Interactive Classroom Experiences.

According to Prof. Zhang Lian of BFSU, the language teaching mode has been transformed from language-based to content-based and now problem-driven. Teachers are trying to help the students improve the ability to analyze, interpret, evaluate and create.

Dr. Jin Limin, vice Dean of School of English & International Studies of BFSU added that the new teaching mode would be implemented next semester. The compulsory courses will be reduced from 84.3% to 45.5%, aiming to encourage students to choose more selective courses to their own interests.

The workshop offered a platform for teachers to learn, communicate and share opinions as well as research findings with each other, furthermore, to optimize the teaching effect.
