BEIJING, May 2 (Xinhua) -- The 3rd International Congress on Technical and Vocational Education and Training will be held in Shanghai, from May 14 to 16, sources with the Chinese Ministry of Education (MOE) said on Wednesday.

Titled "Building Skills for Work and Life," the congress has so far attracted nearly 1,000 delegates from more than 100 countries, regions and more than 80 international organizations.

Participants will focus on how to transform and expand technical and vocational education and training to ensure that all young people and adults can develop the skills needed for work and life in plenary, thematic and regional sessions.

"We will also display China's achievements in boosting technical and vocational education and training through round table talks and exhibitions," said Ge Daokai, director of the MOE's department of technical and vocational education and training.

With financial support from China's central government, vocational education has progressed rapidly in recent years. In 2009, China had 21 million students at secondary school age undergoing vocational education.
