In 2011, the total number of foreign students studying in China exceeded 290,000 for the first time, according to news from the Ministry of Education of China on Feb. 28.
There were 292,611 foreign students from 194 countries and regions studying in 660 universities, institutes and other academic organizations of China.
In 2011, the foreign students studying in China increased by around 10 percent compared to that of 2010. Of them, the number of the students winning the scholarship from the Chinese government was 25,687, up 15 percent compared to that of 2010; the number of the self-funded students was 266,924, up 10 percent compared to that of 2010.
