An official with Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has urged two major telecom operators in China to step up efforts improving security of their application stores.

The application stores of China Telecom and China Mobile have many loopholes, said Xiong Sihao, vice director-general of the Communication Security Bureau under the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

“Currently, the operators still have not fundamentally changed the weakest links of their networks, though they have improved them,” he said.

Third-party developers may implant advertisement codes

Not long ago, media successively revealed the inside “black interest chain” story of the Apple application store, indicating that application stores are facing a crisis of disorder and the victims are the users. If the users are not careful enough, they may meet pirated applications, malicious software and even viruses.

As application stores are spreading, the smart phone is also able to store more personal information, such as the private text, picture and video. However, the openness of mobile phone platform and the seamless connection between mobile phone and Internet have realized the zero-distance contact between the mobile phone virus and individual privacy. Once a user gets virus infection, it is quite possible that his or her private information will be leaked.
