China's top 10 scientific breakthroughs of 2011

China’s Top 10 Scientific Achievements 2011 elected by academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering was announced on Jan .17 in Beijing.

The 10 achievements are:

The successful rendezvous of Tiangong-1 and Shenzhou-8

China’s first manned deep-sea submersible Jiaolong successfully reached a depth of 5,188 meters.

The yield of China's hybrid rice breed, known as super rice, has exceeded 900 kg per mu (0.067 hectare).

China completed the construction of its first superconducting transformer substation.

A new mechanism of brain neural network was discovered.

China invented world’s largest high-speed laser equipment.

A new target for liver cancer prognosis judgment and treatment was discovered.

China’s first fast breeding reactor was combined to the grid and started generating power.

The first deep-water drilling platform was delivered in Shanghai.

Deep geological exploration started a new era for geology.
