After 20 days of trek, China’s 28th Antarctic exploration team reached the peak of Antarctica's inland ice cap, the 4093-meter-high ice dome A, at 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 4, 2011.

When arriving at Kunlun Station, the temperature there was -32.7 degrees celcius and the vehicles were in good condition.

Due to altitudinal hypoxia, the team members had some normal high altitude reactions such as chest tightness and asthma.

After taking a break, the 26 team members will conduct scientific exploration and subsequent constructions at Kunlun Station, said Jin Bo, head of Kunlun Station and captain of the 28th Antarctic exploration team.

During the 26th and 27th Antarctic explorations the major part of the deep ice core drilling area has been constructed. In the 28th Antarctic exploration, the team will continue the construction and install and adjust the AST3, China's first automatic astronomical telescope.

The exploration team will also try to complete the construction of the second period of the 172 square meters’ comprehensive building as well as the steel structure of the garage.

According to the plan, the team will stay more than 20 days at Kunlun Station. It is scheduled to leave on Feb. 2, 2012 and will arrive at Zhongshan Station on Feb. 20.
