The China Meteorological Administration and China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation jointly have held a seminar on the development of China's Fengyun satellites in Beijing from Dec. 5 to Dec. 7.

The development framework and ideas for China's third-generation meteorological satellite have taken shape by collecting user feedback and discussing the development goals of the satellites and payload.

China’s FY-series meteorological satellites have been under development for 40 years. The country has successfully launched 11 FY satellites, with six operating stably in orbit and achieved the development goals for regular operations.

Considering the economic and social benefits gained from the first and second-generation FY-series meteorological satellites, it is important to further develop the third-generation FY satellites for the sustainable development of satellite observation services, for meeting the growing application demands and for improving China's international influence.
