On Oct. 10, the first megawatt-level rooftop photovoltaic power plant of Beijing, built in a silicon materials industrial park operated by Beijing Jingyuntong Technology Co. Ltd, began operation. This signifies that the Beijing Economic and Technological Development Area, the first national solar photovoltaic power application and demonstration area of Beijing, has advanced from the energy contract management demonstration stage to the comprehensive applications stage.

The first phase of the rooftop photovoltaic power plant, built by Beijing Jingyuntong Technology Co., Ltd. has a capacity of 1 megawatt, which is equal to the electricity consumption of 1,150 families in a year. This plant can generate an average of 3,600 kilowatt-hours of electricity every day, which is equivalent to saving 2,800 yuan in electricity fees for every household, which totals about 1 million yuan each year.

Beijing Economic and Technological Development Zone is one of the first national solar photovoltaic power application and demonstration areas in Beijing.

This demonstration area considers digital television enterprises to be the main product of the diversified photovoltaic technology application, and the Benz automobile industry park is considered to account for the majority of the large-scale photovoltaic application. In this development zone, there are 27 projects from nearly 20 enterprises involving investments totaling more than 1 billion yuan.

According to the current construction schedule, by the end of this year the construction will be completed on the photovoltaic curtain walls and the 6.5-megawatt rooftop photovoltaic power plant on the 130,000-square-meter workshop roof of several enterprises installed in this zone.

Photovoltaic power generation amount will reach 20 megawatt next year

According to the development plan of national solar photovoltaic power application and demonstration area in Beijing economic and technological development zone, by the end of 2012 the development zone will achieve the solar photovoltaic power generation capacity of 20 megawatts.

The administrative commission of the development zone estimated that by the end of 2012, solar photovoltaic power generation will reach 20 million kilowatt-hours every year in this development zone, which is equal to saving 7,200 tons of standard coal, reducing carbon emissions by 19,000 tons, eliminating more than 60 tons of sulfur dioxide discharge and cutting 50 tons of oxide emissions. At the same time, it will increase the output of the photovoltaic industry, LED industry and water resource industry by billions of yuan.
