China has carried out theoretical research and comprehensive demonstrations, but there is not a specific timetable yet in the Chinese government plan for the implementation of the manned lunar landing, said Wu Ping, spokeswoman for China's manned space program, at a news conference on Sept. 28 at the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in northwest China's Gansu province.

According to the three-step development strategy in China's manned space program, after the rendezvous and docking operations, which will be realized this year, there will be a series of missions:

The first is carry out the rendezvous and docking operations between manned and unmanned space modules and master space docking technology.

The second is to develop and launch a space laboratory, master space station technology as well as conduct a certain amount of space applications before 2016.

The third mission is to develop and launch the core and experimental modules and assemble a manned space station weighing about 60 tons in orbit. In this phase, China will master technologies pertaining to the construction and operation of a manned space station and long-term manned space flight as well as carry out large-scale space applications in about 2020, Wu said.
