Castro says U.S. has created "a veritable killing machine"

Cuban leader Fidel Castro said the U.S. government has created a veritable killing machine in his three-page editorial published on Sunday's official newspaper Granma.

The editorial entitled "The Killing Machine" came just days after the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) released some of its classified documents dating back to the 1950s.

The documents detailed the agency's worst practices such as overseas assassination attempts and kidnapping during a period of 25 years.

Castro said the release of the documents was only the U.S. government's attempts to salvage itself from an unprecedented low rate of acceptance and popularity, but "everything described in the documents is still being done, only in a more brutal manner around the entire planet."

"The empire has created a veritable killing machine that is made up not only of the CIA and its methods. Bush has established powerful and expensive intelligence and security super-structures, " Castro said, concluding his article with Abraham Lincoln's famous phrase: "You cannot fool all of the people all of the time."

Castro has been active in writing articles on major current world affairs since March, months after he underwent an intestinal operation in July 2006 and handed over power to Defense Minister Raul Castro.
