Philippine police raid abortion clinic
font size

Philippine police have raided an abortion center in Manila and "rescued" 13 women inside and arrested five employees of the illegal clinic, reported the official Philippine News Agency on Sunday.

The unregistered clinic was a mere two-bedroom apartment in a popular district of Manila, where some of the "rescued" women were about to undergo abortion operations when police came Saturday night, said the report.

Police said they are filing charges of medical malpractice against the suspects and are also determining if charges of abortion could be filed against them.

The Philippines is a predominantly Roman Catholic nation which legally bans abortion.
