A new political party officially announced its debut on Tuesday in Bangkok, with academics and some veteran politicians introduced as key members.

According to local media, the new party, named Ruam Jai Thai or united hearts Thai, was backed by former deputy prime minister Somkid Jatusripitak. The party has members including former Democrat secretary-general Pradit Phataraprasit, former Bangkok governor Bhichit Rattakul, former Thai Rak Thai Party member Pravich Rattanapian and former Stock of Exchange president Kittirat na Ranong.

However, it did not announce who take the role of the party leader and secretary-general.
