China to become largest internet market by 2010

The "Report of Global Media and Entertainment Industry 2007 - 2011," published by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) on June 21st, announced that the total value of China's internet market will increase to US$92.5 billion in the next five years. By 2010, the number of internet users in China will exceed the number in the US, and become the global largest market for the internet.

This report said that, in the past four years, China had invested about US$100 billion for building the fiber networks and other basic establishments. The rate of internet coverage increased from 7.9 percent in 2002 to 27.5 percent in 2006. It is expected that China's internet users will increase from 105 million to 235 million in the next five years, and the coverage rate will reach 56.4 percent.
