Egypt's Al Ahly beat Al Hilal of Sudan 2-0 in ACL group match

Egypt and African Champions Al-Ahly on Sunday won a 2-0 home victory over Al Hilal of Sudan in the African Champions League (ACL) Group B match at Cairo International Stadium.

Both squads presented a moderate performance except the last 15 minutes of the match after striker Flavio scored the opener for Al Ahly in the 39th minute of the second half. Flavio's teammate Osama Hosni netted the second goal in the last minute of the stoppage time.

The match was sensitive, as Al Hilal, one of the hottest team either locally or regionally, knocked out Al Ahly in the 2004 African Champions League and Al Ahly is title holders.

The line-up of holders Al-Ahly depended on defense in the early time of the match. They made some counter attacks as Al Hilal built a strong bloc of defense.

Al Hilal, meanwhile, controlled the game almost the whole half except some strikes of Al Ahly's midfielders Islam el-Shater and Mohamed Barakat, but Al Hilal's defenders Rechard Gastin and Ammar Ramadan scattered them.

In the 27th minute of the first half, Al Ahly's Mohamed Abou Treika shot a strong missile, but Mahgoub Al-Mo'ez saved it successfully.

The second half changed totally when some substitutes were made for each. Al Ahly's three replacement Flavio, Hosni and Ahmed Sediq pressed on opponent's net. Flavio and Hosni played a symphony by scoring the two goals.

Some yellow-cards were sent to Al Hilal's goalie and Al Ahly's Islam el-Shater due to tough clashes.

With this result, Al Ahly keeps three points as Al Hilal has nil. Tunisia's Esperance, meanwhile, on Saturday were held at home to a goalless draw by ASEC Abidjan of Cote d'Ivoire.
