The dialogue, exchanges and cooperation between China and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) have deepened in recent years, said China-ASEAN Association (CAA) President Gu Xiulian said on Wednesday.
Gu, who is also vice-chairwoman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress, made this remark at the International Convention Center in Brunei's capital of Bandar Seri Begawan, where the Second Conference on the ASEAN-China People-to- People Friendship Organizations (CACPPFO) opened.
CAA hosted the First CACPPFO in Beijing last year, which was also the 15th anniversary of the establishment of dialogue partnership between China and ASEAN, said Gu, who is leading a CAA delegation to attend the China-ASEAN people-to-people gathering here.
The declaration on China-ASEAN people-to-people friendship and cooperation signed in Beijing last year marked an overall start-up of friendly people-to-people cooperation and the formal establishment of "10+1" people-to-people cooperation mechanism, she said.
The opening of the Second CACPPFO also served as a major event to celebrate the 40th anniversary of ASEAN's founding this year, she said.
Gu expressed hope that the Second CACPPFO will further enhance contacts among the friendly organizations of China and ASEAN members countries, strengthen people-to-people dialogue and cooperation, and promote the understanding among peoples of China and ASEAN countries.
Gu stressed that CAA is willing to work together with friendly organizations of ASEAN countries to make efforts for a better future of China and ASEAN.
The Second CACPPFO is hosted by the Brunei-China Friendship Association. It is also the first conference of such hosted by an ASEAN country. More than 100 delegates from China and ASEAN countries were present at the gathering.
