Cuba's national soccer team traveled to the United States on Wednesday to compete in Group C of the Gold Cup, which runs from Wednesday to June 24, in six U.S. cities.

"On paper Cuba looks weak, but nobody had better underestimate us because they could be in for a shock," said Cuba's manager, Raul Gonzalez Triana. "Our first goal was Gold Cup qualification for the fourth time in a row: a Caribbean record. Now we will fight to get through to the second round."

The second round is an elimination contest which begins with quarter finals. The top two teams from each group qualify automatically, as do the two best teams from the rest of the field.

Cuba's first match will be on Friday against favorite Mexico in New Jersey's Giants Stadium. The second match will be on the following Monday against Panama, who came second in 2005 also in New Jersey. It will then play Honduras on June 13 at Houston's Reliant Stadium.

The team includes 11 players who took part in the previous Gold Cup in 2005, also held in the United States.

Cuba's goalkeepers are Odelin Molina, Dany Luis Quintero and Julio Aldama. The defeners are capital Yenier Marquez, Reyxande Fernandez, Joel Colome, Jorge Luis Clavelo, Silvio Pedro Minoso and Gisbel Morales. Its midfielders are Osvaldo Alonso, Enrique Villaurrutia, Alain Cervantes, Jaime Colome, Pedro Faife and Ariel Martinez. The forwards are Leonel Duarte, Reynier Alcantara, Adonis Ramos and Lester More.
