Zambia gets tough on work permits
font size

Zambia has set up a committee in the Ministry of Labor and Social Security to scrutinize work permit applications from expatriates before the Department of Immigration can issue them, Zambia Daily Mail reported Wednesday.

The government has banned issuance of work permits to truck drivers in the transport industry.

Permanent secretary of the ministry Ngosa Chisupa said Monday that the government will disqualify applications for work whose professional skills could be offered by Zambians.

"We feel there is abuse in the way some work permits are being issued to expatriates," he said.

Chisupa said the government is worried about the rate at which work permits are being issued to some expatriates seeking jobs in Zambia.
