Three U.S. soldiers killed in Iraq

Three U.S. soldiers were killed and nine others wounded in separate attacks in Iraq on Thursday, the U. S. military said on Friday.

One soldier was killed and nine others wounded in an explosion while their unit was conducting combat operations in Diyala province, a statement said.

Two of the wounded were able to return to duty, it added.

A second soldier was killed by small arms fire while conducting combat security operations in south of the capital, the military said in another statement.

A third soldier died of wounds sustained due to small arms fire at about 5:00 p.m. (1300 GMT) Thursday in Diwaniyah province, some 180 km south of Baghdad, a statement said.

About 3,385 U.S. soldiers have been killed in Iraq since the U. S.-led invasion in 2003, according to media count based on Pentagon figures.
