Philippine President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo Wednesday expressed condolences over the victims of a shooting tragedy in Virginia Tech University of the United States, in which 32 people were killed.

"We are one with the world in condoling with the victims of the senseless killings in Virginia Tech University," said Arroyo. "We offer prayers and sympathies to the grieving families, students, staff and faculty of Virginia Tech University, and to the people of the United States during this difficult time."

A former economics professor, Arroyo also said the tragedy should make concerned authorities to improve security and safety standards for students and personnel on campuses at all times.

"The unfortunate incident magnifies the need to keep all campuses safe and secure at all times as sanctuaries of learning for the youth," she said.
