Guinea Bissau's new Prime Minister Martinho Ndafa Kabi officially took office Friday morning as the chief of government, in the presence of President Nino Vieira and members of the foreign services, according to news reaching here.

In a brief speech, President Vieira expressed his " unconditional" support to the new government chief to whom he wished "complete success."

Kabi, 48, was nominated Prime Minister on April 9, after constituting a new majority in the Parliament, following the desertion of some members who, with the support of the opposition, voted for a censure motion against the government of former prime minister Aristides Gomes Junio who announced his resignation on March 29.

Kabi is expected to implement the reforms of army, police and political functions which constitute great burden for the country's public finances, according to him.
