Qatar's Foreign Minister Sheikh Hamad bin Jassem bin Jabr al-Thani was appointed on Tuesday as new prime minister after Sheikh Abdullah bin Khalifa al-Thani resigned from the post, according to the state news agency QNA.

Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani announced the appointment through state media only minutes after announcing the resignation of Sheikh Abdullah.

Sheikh Hamad will continue to hold the post of foreign minister in his new government, according to QNA, without giving more details about the background of the cabinet reshuffle.
