According to Petrochina Tarim Oilfield Company, in 2006, the west to east gas transportation project supplied 9.9 billion cubic meters of gas to more than 80 big and medium-sized cities in 12 provinces or autonomous regions. During the peak of gas supply, it supplied 36 million cubic meters a day.
The project to transport gas from western China to eastern China began in February of 2000, and the pipeline went into operation at the end of 2004.
It was reported that in 2005 and 2006, 16 billion cubic meters of natural gas overall were delivered to users in Jiangsu province, Zhejiang provice, Shanghai city, Henan province, Anhui province, Shanxi province, and cities along the pipelines to Shaanxi province and Beijing city. Over 3000 industrial enterprises and 200 million residents based along the pipeline benefited from this project.
