Syrian President meets British parliament delegation on regional situation

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad met on Monday a delegation of the British House of Commons Foreign Affairs Committee on the regional situation, particularly in Iraq, the occupied Palestinian territories and Lebanon.

According to the official SANA news agency, Assad reviewed Syria's stances regarding the current events in the region and its vision for the establishment of security, stability and a just and comprehensive peace in the Middle East.

Assad also stressed the right of countries to the peaceful use of the nuclear energy, SANA reported.

The delegation, headed by Deputy Chairman of the committee John Stanley, also held a meeting with Syrian Vice President Farouk al- Shara in which they focused on the repercussions resulting from the occupation and the intensive displacement of people in and outside Iraq.

The members of the delegations raised a number of questions on ways for dealing with this situation and on the constructive role of Syria in restoring stability in Iraq, the report added.
