Kuwait said Sunday that it has contained bird flu outbreak, official KUNA news agency reported.

No new cases of bird flu have been reported in the emirate for the third day in a row and the epidemic situation seemed quite stabilized, KUNA said.

Kuwait announced to detect a new bird flu case on Thursday, which raised the total number of the cases to 53.

Ahmad al-Shatti, a spokesman for the Health Ministry, was quoted as saying that tests for 506 bird samples over the last 24 hours were all negative for the fatal bird flu virus.

Meanwhile, till now, all samples of 311 people who had contact with birds have been proved negative for bird flu virus, indicating that Kuwait has remained free of human cases since its outbreak late last month.
