font size

A moderate quake with magnitude of 5.7 hit eastern part of Indonesia on Friday, no report of casualty or damages, the country's Meteorology and Geophysics Agency said .

The quake struck at 10:33 Jakarta time (0333GMT) with epicenter 179 km northeast Saumlaki town of Maluku province and 39 kilometers under seabed, an official of the agency told Xinhua.

Earlier this week, 5.8 magnitude quake rocked West Sumatra province, killing 73 people and made thousands others internally displaced.

Indonesia is located on a vulnerable quake hit zone that call "the Pacific Ring of Fire", where continental plates meet causing frequent seismic and volcanic activity.
