Egypt says to attend upcoming Baghdad meeting of Iraqi neighbors
font size

Egypt Foreign Minister Ahmed Abul Gheit on Saturday said that the country would take part in an upcoming meeting of Iraqi neighboring countries due in Baghdad on March 10, the official MENA news agency reported.

Egypt's participation reflects its support for Iraq and for any Arab, regional or international effort to help achieve security and stability in that war-torn country, Abul Gheit was quoted as saying.

The Egyptian top diplomat, meanwhile, called on the Iraqi government to take measures to ensure national reconciliation " which would be welcomed by all parties concerned".

On Tuesday, the Iraqi government formally invited UN Security Council's five permanent members of the United States, Russia, China, Britain and France to take part in the Baghdad meeting, along with Bahrain, Egypt, Iran, Jordan, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Syria and Turkey.
