Israeli operation continues in W. Bank, three Palestinian militants killed
font size

Israeli special forces continued its military operation in the West Bank on Wednesday, killing three Palestinian militants from the Islamic Jihad (Holy War) in the West Bank city of Jenin.

Palestinian witnesses said that three militants from an armed wing of Islamic Jihad were shot dead by a group of undercover Israeli soldiers when they were walking on a street in Jenin refugee camp.

Local security sources identified the slain as Mohammed Abu Ne' ma, Alaa Brika and Ahsraf al-Sa'adi, 25, the commander of the Islamic Jihad's al-Quds Brigades in West Bank.

Meanwhile, Israeli media reports said that an Israeli soldier was wounded when Israeli troops exchanged fire with Sa'adi and his men.

The security sources said that Israeli army backed by helicopters and about 20 military vehicles raided Jenin at wee hours of Wednesday.

Shortly after the killing, the Islamic Jihad in Gaza vowed to retaliate.

"This operation will not pass without a devastating response," spokesman for Jihad Abu Ahmed said in a statement emailed to reporters.

In another West Bank city of Nablus, Israeli forces restarted an offensive a day after their withdrawal.

But the quick return of Israeli army was under the expectation of Palestinian security forces, which have warned in advance residents and militants in Nablus that the army was likely to return to the city.

Israel launched operation, dubbed "Warm Winter", in Nablus last Sunday to search for wanted militants.

The operation in Nablus has killed on Palestinian civilian and wounded a dozen others so far.

Palestinian security sources said on Wednesday that the army took away relatives of some wanted Palestinian militants after they failed to arrest those militants.

They added that the operation was going tensely in the old district of Nablus as a strict curfew was imposed by Israeli army in the city.

During Israel's overnight raids across the West Bank, a total of 26 Palestinians were arrested, according to Israeli media reports.

In retaliation to Israeli operation in the West Bank, the Islamic Jihad announced on Wednesday that its militants have fired two home-made rockets into southern Israeli city of Ashkelon.
