Kuwaiti Health Minister Sheikh Ahmad al-Abdullah al-Sabah said on Sunday that bird flu cases were spotted among birds in Kuwait, the official KUNA news agency reported.

The virus existed in 20 samples taken from birds, mostly falcons, which were living in local zoo and a falcon hospital, al- Sabah was quoted as saying.

The minister said that there were no infections among humans until now, adding that a national emergency plan has been activated.

According to KUNA, the Kuwaiti Public Authority for Agriculture and Fish Resources Affairs has adopted precautionary measures and informed the World Health Organization and liaison officers in the six Gulf Cooperation Council states of the matter.
