Iraqi police said they found 33 unidentified bodies, some of them tortured, in several parts of Baghdad, on Wednesday, an Interior Ministry source said.
"Our patrols collected up to 33 bodies in different neighborhoods of Baghdad," the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.
Some of the bullet-riddled bodies were bounded and showing signs of torture, the source added.
Last year, a report of the U.N. Assistance Mission in Iraq said that civilian deaths in Iraq reached an unprecedented level as a result of violent attacks.
The report said that bodies found in Baghdad morgue "often bear signs of severe torture, including acid-induced injuries and burns caused by chemical substances, missing skin, broken bones, missing eyes, missing teeth and wounds caused by power drills or nails."
