France's Poiree wins biathlon 20km race at world championships
France's Raphael Poiree won the men's 20km race at the world championships in Anterselva Tuesday.
Poiree promptly announced he would retire at the end of this season after clinching the title.
The Frenchman completed the course in 56 minutes 14.6 seconds with a single missed target on the shooting range.
He finished 26.8 seconds ahead of German Michael Greis with Michal Slesingr of the Czech Republic almost 11 seconds further adrift in third.
The win handed Poiree, 32, his eighth world title in individual events, but the Frenchman was adamant that he would stop at the season's end.
Poiree, the four-time winner of the overall World Cup title, will still compete in this championships' races and some races in the World Cup this season.
