Gan Yisheng has been elected vice secretary of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of the Communist Party of China (CPC).

The appointment was announced at the Seventh Plenary Session of the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI), which concluded here on Wednesday.

Gan was previously director of the legal affairs office of the CCDI. From November 1998 to December 2002, he was Vice Minister of Supervision. Since November 2002, he has been CCDI secretary-general and a member of the Standing Committee of the CCDI.

Gan was also the spokesman of CCDI in dealing with the case of the former Party chief of Shanghai Chen Liangyu, who was sacked for his involvement in a social security fund scandal last September.
