The Myanmar national football team triumphed at the Grand Royal Challenge Cup 2006 soccer tournament at the Bahtoo Stadium in the second largest city of Mandalay, 640 kilometers north of Yangon Saturday evening.
The Myanmar national team beat the Myanmar U-23 team 3-2 in the final and won the trophy of the Challenge Cup.
Four teams -- Indonesian U-23, Malaysian U-23, Myanmar U-23 and Myanmar national team -- competed at the Challenge Cup tournament, sponsored by the Myanmar Football Federation (MFF) and a local company, offering 15,000 US dollars for the first prize and 7,500 dollars for the runner-up.
In the first day of the tournament on Sunday, the Myanmar U-23 team, which is perparing for the 2008 Beijing Olympic qualifiers and the 24th Southeast Asian Games in Thailand, beat the Malaysian U-23 team 1-0 and the Myanmar national team, which is preparing for the upcoming 2007 Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Championship, defeated the Indonesian U-23 team 2-1.
The Myanmar U-23 tied the Indonesian U-23 with a goalless draw and the Malaysian U-23 beat the Myanmar national team 1-0 on Tuesday. The Indonesian U-23 drew with the Malaysian U-23 1-1 and the Myanmar national team defeated the Myanmar U-23 3-2 on Thursday.
