Afghan and NATO forces in their joint operation conducted in southern Zabul province arrested seven suspected insurgents including a Taliban group commander, provincial police Chief Noor Mohammad Paktin said Tuesday.
"Acting on intelligence report, Afghan and NATO troops conducted a search operation in a house in Zabul provincial capital Qalat Monday night arresting seven rebels including a Taliban group commander," Paktin told Xinhua.
A number of arms and ammunitions were also recovered from the house, he added.
Nevertheless, he failed to identify the Taliban commander or his importance in the movement.
More than 3,900 people, mostly militants, according to officials, have been killed in Afghanistan since beginning of this year.
