Chinese president sends congratulations to Malaysia's new supreme head of state

Chinese President Hu Jintao sent congratulations on Wednesday to Mizan Zainal Abidin for becoming Malaysia's new Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

"On the happy occasion of Your Majesty's assumption of the post of Yang di-Pertuan Agong of Malaysia, I wish to extend, on behalf of the Chinese people and in my own name, our warmest congratulations and best wishes to Your Majesty," Hu said in his message.

Hu said that since the establishment of diplomatic ties, China-Malaysia relations had made substantial progress and the two countries enjoyed continuous consolidation of strategic cooperation.

"I am willing to work together with Your Majesty to promote China-Malaysia relations continuously to achieve new progress," said Hu.

Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin on Wednesday took the oath of office as the 13th Malaysian Supreme Head of State.

Also on Wednesday, China's Vice President Zeng Qinghong sent congratulations to Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah for becoming Deputy Yang di-Pertuan Agong of Malaysia.
