The Finnish Defense Forces said in a statement Friday that Finnish Defense Minister Seppo Kaariainen has decided to order three mine countermeasures vessels from Italy for the Finnish Navy.
According to the statement, the vessels and the auxiliary systems are valued at 245 million euros. The first ship is to be delivered in 2010 and the last one in 2012. They are to be in full use by 2015.
The vessels will improve Finland's capabilities to participate in international crisis management operations, the statement says, adding they are primarily procured for national missions.
