Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao met with U.S. Secretary of Education Margaret Spellings on Friday.

Wen said educational cooperation had been a bridge between China and the United States for the promotion of mutual understanding and friendship, and had enhanced Sino-U.S. relations.

China and the United States signed a memorandum of understanding on furthering educational cooperation on Thursday. Wen expressed his hope that the two sides would implement the memorandum of understanding.

Spellings vowed to work with her Chinese counterpart to put the memorandum of understanding into practice in order to push forward the educational exchanges.
