China is confident of reducing 10 percent of its major pollutant emissions in the next five years, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao said on Friday.
"It is a very tough task, but we are determined and confident of fulfilling it," Wen said in a meeting with international members of the China Council for International Cooperation on Environment and Development (CCICED), a consulting agency to the Chinese government.
The Chinese government attaches great importance to environmental protection and regards it as highly significant in the building of a harmonious society and the realization of sustainable development, Wen noted.
He expressed his appreciation for the CCICED's role in environmental protection and boosting international cooperation.
"I hope the CCICED can continue to propel China's sustainable development," Wen said.
