China avoids birth of 400 million with family planning
font size

It is estimated that the birth of an additional 400 million Chinese citizens has been prevented since the family planning policy was implemented 30 years ago, said Zhang Weiqing, chief of the National Population and Family Planning Commission of China, on November 8.

Zhang said China has performed two miracles since the end of the 1970s; rapid economic development, averaging a 9.6 percent increase every year, and control of population growth. The family planning policy has inhibited the birth rate, which has significantly lessened the strain on the nation's resources.
