Beijing's preparation for the 29th Olympic Games is on a good path, said a senior International Olympic Committee (IOC) official here on Thursday.
Hein Verbruggen, chairman of the IOC coordination commission for the Beijing Games, expressed his satisfaction for the construction work.
"We are able to say that it is continuing at the right pace. The work is progressing as it should be," said Verbruggen.
He singled out the national stadium, the Bird's Nest as the most remarkable during top IOC officials' visit to the Chinese capital.
"The Bird's Nest will be an icon of the city in the future as the opera house in Sydney. It is wonderful," he said.
