Ecuador national soccer team manager, Colombia's Luis Fernando Suarez, told media on Tuesday that he would not join the Colombian team as manager for the 2007 Copa America, due to be held in Venezuela.
"I have a contract with the Ecuador Football Federation and I have to respect it," he said. Apart from that I feel comfortable in Ecuador and there is still a lot to do."
Suarez's strategy took Ecuador to the 2006 World Cup in Germany, and through to the second round of the competition; the team's best ever result. Suarez is now training the team for the Copa America and the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
Suarez took over halfway through the qualification phase after another Colombian, Hernan Dario Gomez, quit. Gomez took Ecuador to its first ever World Cup: 2002's Japan and South Korea competition.
