font size

Kazakhstan attaches great importance to developing relations with China and seeks expanded cooperation with China, Kazakhstan's top officials have told a visiting delegation of China's National People's Congress (NPC) in Kazakh capital Astana.

Kazakhstan hopes to deepen its overall cooperation with China in various fields and strengthen communication and coordination with China on regional and international issues, especially those within the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, Foreign Minister Kassymzhomart Tokayev said Friday during a meeting with Jiang Enzhu, who headed a delegation of the NPC Foreign Affairs Committee.

On Thursday, N. Abykaev, chairman of Kazakhstan's Senate (the upper house), told Jiang that Kazakhstan considers the development of relations with China as a top priority and is satisfied with bilateral cooperation in various fields in recent years.

Abykaev added that Kazakhstan will unswervingly adhere to the one-China policy and firmly supports China's stance on the Taiwan issue.

Ural Mukhamedzhanov, chairman of Mazhlis (the lower house), told Jiang Thursday that Kazakhstan highly values the parliamentary exchanges between the two countries and hopes that the exchanges and cooperation could deepen the friendship between the two nations and further promote their bilateral strategic partnership.

For his part, Jiang, chairman of the NPC Foreign Affairs Committee, told his Kazakh hosts that China will unswervingly support Kazakhstan's efforts in safeguarding its independence, sovereignty and security and in rejuvenating national economy.

Jiang added that the NPC and its Foreign Affairs Committee are willing to enhance cooperation and exchanges with the Kazakh parliament to contribute to the deepening of friendship between the two peoples and the further development of the Sino-Kazakh strategic partnership.
